What does the Select Board do? It is the town’s executive board. It prepares the Town Meeting warrant (the list of articles voters decide), appoints members of many town boards, hires the town’s top staff, signs warrants to pay town bills, and grants licenses and permits.
Town Meeting, not the Select Board, votes the town budget and town bylaws.

Loaded: Avon Select Board (called the Board of Selectmen until late 2023) minutes from January 6, 2018 through September 17, 2026. Minutes from 2025 on come from the town’s Agenda Center; minutes from 2018 to 2024 come from the town’s Document Center (Minutes, Select Board folder), where the town posted its older files. Some meetings from 2018 to 2025 have an agenda but no minutes online, and a few files are filed under the wrong date; we load each file under the meeting it really records and list the gaps for the town. Meetings after September 17, 2026 are not posted yet. Nearly every minutes file is a scanned image, which MassVoter read with text recognition and checked by hand. Avon’s minutes name who made and seconded each motion, but most of them then say only “The motion carried” or “The motion passed,” without a count or names. For those votes we show the result only, without guessing how each member voted, even though the board has only three members. When the minutes say the vote was unanimous or that all were in favor, every member present is shown voting yes, and when the minutes record a roll call (usually for executive sessions, adjourning and remote meetings), each member’s vote is shown by name. Votes taken by other boards at joint meetings (for example the Finance Committee) are left out. We will ask the town to confirm any noted vote. The Select Board office answered MassVoter’s questions about the minutes on October 7 and 8, 2026; each vote changed by those answers says so in its note.
Most board votes are unanimous. These are the ones where at least one member voted no or abstained, newest first.
