Avon Select Board

How the Avon Select Board voted, from the Select Board’s official minutes. 3 Select Board members elected townwide for three-year terms. After the April 14, 2026 town election the same three members reorganized on April 16, 2026: Jason Suzor, Sr. as Chair and Eric Beckerman as Clerk (Ms. Coffey made both motions; both passed). Minutes after September 17, 2026 are not posted yet. Jason L. Suzor, Sr. resigned from the board effective October 2, 2026; Eric Beckerman is now Chair and Shannon Coffey is Clerk, and a special election on December 12, 2026 will fill the open seat (Select Board office, by email to MassVoter.com, October 7, 2026). Until then the board has two members. The end date is a placeholder. Covers 13 meetings so far, April 16 to September 17, 2026.

A monthly email on what it voted on, starting in November.

What does the Select Board do? It is the town’s executive board. It prepares the Town Meeting warrant (the list of articles voters decide), appoints members of many town boards, hires the town’s top staff, signs warrants to pay town bills, and grants licenses and permits.

Town Meeting, not the Select Board, votes the town budget and town bylaws.

How the town can raise its score
  • Each vote named (+2): On any vote that isn’t unanimous, write how each member voted. For example: “Motion passed 3–2. Yes: Smith, Jones, Lee. No: Brown, Silva.” A roll call on split votes is the simplest way to do this.
  • Readable text (+1): Save minutes straight from Word or Google Docs as a PDF instead of printing and scanning them. If a scan is needed, turn on the scanner’s “searchable PDF” or text-recognition setting.
  • Member photos (+1): Show a photo of each member on the board’s web page, with their name, the date their term ends and how to contact them. A group photo of the members, with everyone named in the caption or on the same page, earns half a point.

Meetings

About missing minutes

Loaded: Avon Select Board (called the Board of Selectmen until late 2023) minutes from January 6, 2018 through September 17, 2026. Minutes from 2025 on come from the town’s Agenda Center; minutes from 2018 to 2024 come from the town’s Document Center (Minutes, Select Board folder), where the town posted its older files. Some meetings from 2018 to 2025 have an agenda but no minutes online, and a few files are filed under the wrong date; we load each file under the meeting it really records and list the gaps for the town. Meetings after September 17, 2026 are not posted yet. Nearly every minutes file is a scanned image, which MassVoter read with text recognition and checked by hand. Avon’s minutes name who made and seconded each motion, but most of them then say only “The motion carried” or “The motion passed,” without a count or names. For those votes we show the result only, without guessing how each member voted, even though the board has only three members. When the minutes say the vote was unanimous or that all were in favor, every member present is shown voting yes, and when the minutes record a roll call (usually for executive sessions, adjourning and remote meetings), each member’s vote is shown by name. Votes taken by other boards at joint meetings (for example the Finance Committee) are left out. We will ask the town to confirm any noted vote. The Select Board office answered MassVoter’s questions about the minutes on October 7 and 8, 2026; each vote changed by those answers says so in its note.
