What does the Select Board do? It is the town’s executive board. It prepares the Town Meeting warrant (the list of articles voters decide), appoints members of many town boards, hires the town’s top staff, signs warrants to pay town bills, and grants licenses and permits. Town Meeting, not the Select Board, votes the town budget and town bylaws.

Ballot quizzes use only the candidates’ own words and the official Information for Voters guide. Select Board votes come from the Burlington Select Board’s official minutes; State House votes from the Massachusetts Legislature’s roll calls. MassVoter never grades officials or endorses anyone; votes and attendance are shown exactly as the minutes record them. Photos: Town of Burlington, Select Board page (captioned group photo).
