Motion presented by Councillor Powers: That the Mayor request the DPW to install a guardrail in the area of 780 North Shore Road. Within the last couple of months, the home at this location was hit by a speeding motor vehicle and the pole located next to the home was also hit. Further, three weeks ago a fatality occurred in the area of 182 and 190 North Shore Road. Several months ago, electronic speed signs that were requested to be installed have not yet been installed. The Revere Police Department and State Police should work together to enforce speeding on this dangerous stretch of Route 1A. Motion presented by Councillor Cogliandro, Councillor Serino: That the Mayor, at the earliest opportunity, appropriate funding in the amount of $25,000 for a traffic study, to be undertaken by a professional traffic engineer, to evaluate the impacts of vehicular traffic of Route 60 (aka Squire Road) in the area of the city from Washington Avenue to Broadway. The purpose of such a study shall be to gather data around how the traffic flowing to and from Squire Road impacts neighborhood residential streets that abut Route 60, particularly the streets off Route 60 Eastbound, as well as to make tangible, achievable reccomendations on how to improve traffic flow in order to lessen the burden on residential side streets. The ultimate goal shall be to implement a comprehensive traffic mitigation strategy to ensure these residential streets off of Squire Road are not overburdened with vehicular traffic at a disproportionate rate than similar narrow residential streets in the community.
