Motion presented by Council Vice-President McKenna: In light of the recent fatal car accident on Winthrop Avenue, that the Mayor be requested to again contact National Grid to repair the street lights on Winthrop Parkway, Winthrop Avenue, and Revere Beach Parkway. These repairs have been requested on several occasions and apparently the repairs are too costly and complicated for National Grid to repair. As an example, the lights on Revere Beach Parkway have been out since July 2014 due to the tornado. The lack of response from National Grid is completely unacceptable and could potentially lead to more fatal accidents in the future on these heavily traversed roadways.

Motion presented by Council Vice-President McKenna: That the Mayor request the Vice President of Operations from National Grid to appear before the City Council at the next regular City Council meeting to explain the lack of electrical work being completed in Revere. On November 19, 2018 a dispatcher from MassDOT assessed the lighting problems on the Rita Singer Bridge and determined the problem. An overhead wire feeding the load center, attached to the bridge, was draped over a chain link fence. In order to restore the lighting, National Grid would have to remove this live wire. MassDOT contacted National Grid to remove the live wire, but there has been no response. Please see attached letter from MassDOT.
