“motion to refer the order to Ordinance, seconded by Councilor Adams. Councilor Burgess - Get complaints about our trash service in town, know they are not providing the quality service they should be. What is happening with trash around town. Need to look at ways to increase recycling. Plastic bags are being found in catch basins and in streams, in trees and so forth. See if there is a way to reduce litter by eliminating plastic bags. Check out bags. Discussion we should have. Councilor Huff-Larmond - Looking to get rid of plastic bags, what would be used? Councilor Burgess - Bring their own reusable bags or they use paper. Councilor Huff-Larmond - What are other towns providing any other type of bags for customers to transport their grocery. Councilor Burgess - Cambridge suggests recycle bag; the market will force a better recycling bag. Councilor W. Alexopoulos - Same thing is happening with coffee cups, looking at ways biodegradable plastic cups, straws. Not a bad idea to take a look at. But ask that we invite the grocery stores and convenient stores to get their input. Councilor A. Alexopoulos - Take into consideration the small mom and pop shops; some might not have the financial means to take on such a drastic hit if having to provide the bags. Councilor Goldstein - Asked that plastic water bottles be looked at also. Vote on Motion: 7-1-0 (Councilor Egan in the negative)..” (second: Adams)
