The Select Board send the Zoning related Articles for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) to the Planning Board for review according to the new State Laws

ApprovePassed · Unanimous, 5 present

That the Select Board send the Zoning related Articles for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) to the Planning Board for review according to the new State Laws

From the minutes

“Ms. Kavanagh moved that the Select Board send the Zoning related Articles for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) to the Planning Board for review according to the new State Laws. Seconded by Mr. Howell. Mr. Howell asked if the intent here is to broadly just do ADUs. He pointed out that in the past, that if they're Affordable restricted ADUs, that's a whole different outcome. They haven't had anybody step forward to do that because an awful lot of people are reticent to put a restriction on a property that they have to convey if they sold the house. He asked if this is just generically : ADUs. He stated that he is in support of that because the Town needs more lower class and middle class housing that's full time. He wants everyone to know that it's not that narrow swath, it actually is by right within the buildings as prescribed. Ms. Kavanagh commented that what she is trying to understand with the new Legislation is that with all the work that the various towns tried to put forward to get exactly that or at least workforce housing, they are now taking a step back. However it is in the Town's Zoning By-laws and it needs to be cleaned up. Vote: 5:0 in favor. Motion carried.” (Motion: Kavanagh, second: Howell)
