That the Board vote positively for a four way stop at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Cross Street
“Mr. Handler moved that the Board vote positively for a four way stop at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Cross Street. Seconded by Mr. Howell. Mr. MacAskill asked if there is a Town Policy or a Police Policy on this issue. Mr. Powers replied that he would defer either to the Police Chief or the members of the Committee, Kevin Considine, Police Chief stated that there is no policy at the Police Department, stop signs are a traffic measure by the Select Board to have something official on paper for enforcement issues. He commented that the Police Department supports this however he has never seen a policy. Mr. Howell noted that signs that are placed by the Police Department or any other entity, that don't have the Executives' approval, are void in court for the purposes of enforcement. He noted that the Select Board does have to vote on the signs if they are going to place them. Mr. Handler added that this did go through the process, the public, Select Board, Traffic Safety, Traffic Safety Officer and back to the Select Board. It has been vetted. Mr. Piekarski commented that he is in support of the stop signs. Vote: 5:0 in favor. Motion carried.” (Motion: Handler, second: Howell)
