That the Select Board task the Town Manger to include in her FY2025 budget proposals sufficient funding for a professional consultant study to evaluate the possible remediation of major deficiencies at the current CFAL facility at 193 Stony Hill Road, so as to help make the facility more serviceable for the needs of Chatham’s seniors; and for the study to include an approximate cost estimate for any such remediation

From the minutes

“Mr. Nicastro made a motion that the Select Board task the Town Manger to include in her FY2025 budget proposals sufficient funding for a professional consultant study to evaluate the possible remediation of major deficiencies at the current CFAL facility at 193 Stony Hill Road, so as to help make the facility more serviceable for the needs of Chatham’s seniors; and for the study to include an approximate cost estimate for any such remediation. Second: Mr. Dykens Further discussion was had regarding changing to the requested study as presented in the staff report and the Select Board value statement about addressing the needs of older and younger seniors in Chatham. It was suggested that $50,000 is too much for such a study and something needed to be done sooner rather than wait until FY2025 for funding. There was further discussion about the cost of the study, about the need to improve the building without expanding the footprint; about ensuring programming can happen in an environment that is conducive for those engaging in the programming; and the need for efficiency in getting the study completed and begin work on the items identified. It was suggested that the Town Manager take time to review potential funding sources for the study with the new Finance Director and determine the scope of the engineering study. It was discussed that the group of Town employees and staff do a walk-through of the current Center for Active Living and see what they identify as deficiencies. Mr. Nicastro amended his initial motion to state that the Select Board task the Town Manager to engage a professional consultant to evaluate the possible remediation of major deficiencies at the current CFAL facility at 193 Stony Hill Road, so as to help make the facility more serviceable for the needs of Chatham’s seniors; and for the study to include an approximate cost estimate for any such remediation. Second: Mr. Schell Roll Call Dean Nicastro: yes Shareen Davis: yes Jeffrey Dykens: yes Michael Schell: yes Cory Metters: yes.” (Motion: Nicastro, second: Dykens)
