Nominate Melissa Ferretti as Chair

Minutes, page 2

AppointPassed · 3–2

To nominate Melissa Ferretti as Chair.

Yes: Azarovitz, Ferretti, SiroonianNo: Mastrangelo, Meier

From the minutes

“Voted: Anne-Marie Siroonian moved, and Jeanne Azarovitz seconded, to nominate Melissa Ferretti as Chair. MJ Mastrangelo said that she is not in favor of having Chairs for two years. She said it comes primarily from her own experience as Chair for two years, and her time on the Board. She said she does not think it is advisable because it is not good for the Chair or the Board. She thinks it is important for every member of this Board to take a turn as Chair. Ms. Mastrangelo also said that if Ms. Ferretti is Chair again this year, she hopes the Board will be able to do some of the things they are supposed to do as a Board including goal reviews, policy reviews, and other duties. Jeanne Azarovitz said that she believes in some continuity and if someone is willing to step up to continue their role as Chair that it is worth supporting. She said this past year was a tough year, and that adds to the challenge of gaining some traction in the Chair's role. She told Ms. Ferretti that she thinks she has led well. She agreed with Ms. Mastrangelo's ideas for things to work on this year. Anne-Marie Siroonian said that the reasons that Ms. Mastrangelo stated, ironically are the reasons why she wants Ms. Ferretti to have the opportunity to serve again as Chair. She said the intent was there and they had some curve balls and sidetracking that they had to deal with this past year. She said that she believes that Ms. Ferretti has the same goals, and this would give her the chance to come full circle and lead the Board. Peter Meier said that having been Chair 4 times out of 15 years, he does not want to be Chair now because he feels he can be just as effective in his current role. He said that it is healthy to change and that Ms. Ferretti should ask for help if needed. Ms. Ferretti said that she appreciates Ms. Mastrangelo's comments. She talked about how she came to wanting to serve as Chair for a second year. Roll Call Vote: Anne-Maire Siroonian - yes, Jeanne Azarovitz - yes, Peter Meier - no, MJ Mastrangelo- no, and Chair Ferretti - yes. 3-2-0.” (Motion: Siroonian, second: Azarovitz)
