What it means
Sets rules for schools that teach sexual health education. Requires a written policy that notifies parents at least 30 days before instruction, lets them review materials and withdraw their child without penalty, and gives withdrawn students another activity. Schools that offer a comprehensive sexual health curriculum must make it medically accurate and age-appropriate and cover listed topics, including human development and anatomy, abstinence and delaying sex, preventing STDs and pregnancy including contraception, consent and healthy relationships, and information on sexual orientation and gender identity. Also directs the state education department to update the health curriculum framework, write child exploitation awareness guidelines for grades 2 to 12, and review outside contractors' materials every 2 years; takes effect for the 2018-2019 school year.
