Amendment adopted
What it means
A citizen-proposed amendment to the state Constitution that would add a 4 percent tax on the part of yearly taxable income above $1,000,000 reported on any income tax return, on top of the regular income tax. The $1,000,000 level would be adjusted each year for cost of living, the same way federal tax brackets are. The money could be spent, subject to appropriation, only on public education, public colleges and universities, and repair and maintenance of roads, bridges and public transportation. It would apply to tax years starting on or after January 1, 2019.
