What it means
This bill requires bodywork therapists to be licensed by the state, replacing the section of law that sets up the state massage board with a Board of Registration of Massage Therapy and Bodyworks whose members include a law enforcement representative who focuses on human trafficking. Only licensed people may call themselves bodywork therapists or advertise bodywork, and ads may not combine bodywork with escort or dating services. It sets licensing rules for massage therapists (including at least 500 classroom hours of training), lets the board inspect facilities and discipline licensees, and lets local police inspect massage and bodywork premises with legal process. The board must accept bodywork license applications by July 1, 2019, and the act takes effect when passed.
