What it means
This bill requires the state health and human services office to assess state Alzheimer's programs and keep a state plan on the disease, and creates an advisory council that meets quarterly in public and reports yearly. It requires a one-time course on diagnosing and caring for patients with cognitive impairments, including Alzheimer's disease and dementia, for physicians, physician assistants and nurses who serve adults, to be done within 4 years. Physicians must, with the patient's consent, tell a family member or legal representative about an Alzheimer's diagnosis and share care planning information. Hospitals must put in place a plan for patients with dementia or delirium by October 1, 2021, and elder protective services caseworkers must get training on cognitive impairment.
