What it means
Sets up automatic voter registration. People who give the Registry of Motor Vehicles or MassHealth (and other approved state agencies that collect reliable citizenship information) the needed details would be sent to local election officials, who check eligibility and notify them; unless the person declines within 21 days, they are added to the voter list. The bill has Massachusetts join the Electronic Registration Information Center to share voter data for keeping lists accurate, requires the RMV to send data at least every 2 months, adds a penalty for knowingly giving false information, and protects the records of people who opt out. Regulations are due by July 31, 2019, and most of the act takes effect January 1, 2020.
