This bill bars making, selling or bringing into Massachusetts children's products (for ages 12 and under), home upholstered furniture, bedding, carpeting and window treatments containing more than 1,000 parts per million of 11 listed chemical flame retardants. Every 3 years the state Department of Environmental Protection must review whether to add other flame retardants that meet listed health-harm tests. Products made before January 1, 2019, used products and vehicles are exempt, makers must notify sellers by October 1, 2018, and the ban takes effect January 1, 2019.
