What it means

The House's fiscal year 2018 supplemental budget. It adds money to many existing state accounts, including $25,633,697 for the Department of Transitional Assistance, $19,263,955 for the Department of Housing and Community Development, $12,500,000 for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, $12,000,000 for a state reserve, $5,300,000 for Veterans' Services and $4,450,000 for the Department of Correction. It creates reserves of $21,076,186 for sheriffs' deficits, $15,500,000 for state union contracts (which it makes effective), $2,500,000 for people who came from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands after hurricanes Maria and Irma, $1,604,000 for family planning services if federal Title X money is not released by April 30, 2018, and $895,576 for Buckland, Colrain and Hawley for tropical storm Irene costs. It also adds $2,000,000 for the Cannabis Control Commission, a $15,000,000 transfer to a health and human services trust fund, and adds references to marijuana products and the local marijuana tax (chapter 64N) to two state tax laws.
