What it means
This Senate bill requires the state education department to set personal financial literacy standards for students in kindergarten through grade 12, covering topics such as loans, interest, credit card debt, renting or buying a home, saving and retirement, banking, taxes and charitable giving. Schools may add the standards to math, social studies, business or other classes, and the state must share teaching resources. It revives an advisory committee through December 31, 2022 to study financial literacy programs and report by August 31, 2019, and the standards must be set before the 2019-2020 school year.
