What it means
This bill bars licensed health care providers, such as doctors, psychologists, social workers, nurses and counselors, from advertising or using practices meant to change the sexual orientation or gender identity of a patient under 18. Practices that offer acceptance, support or identity exploration, and that do not try to change orientation or identity, are not covered. A provider who breaks the rule may be disciplined by the licensing board, including license suspension or revocation, and is treated as violating the state consumer protection law (chapter 93A).
