To authorize Chief Clancy, in conjunction with the Board of Health to implement a drive-through testing site for Whitman residents as soon as possible
“Mr. LaMattina MOVED to authorize Chief Clancy, in conjunction with the Board of Health to implement a drive-through testing site for Whitman residents as soon as possible. Second Mr. Bezanson. Mr. Salvucci asked if there is a possibility that use of the CARES Act funds will be extended past December 31st. Mr. Heineman said no, it was an act of Congress that the funds expire at that time; however, some tests could be purchased now if they can be found at a reasonable price. Chief Clancy stated that if tests are purchased and a testing site cannot be implemented right away, the kits could be placed in town buildings for residents to pick up. Chairman Kowalski called for a vote in connection with the motion on the floor. So voted 5-0.” (Motion: LaMattina, second: Bezanson)

To close the Town Hall, Whitman Public Library, Council on Aging and Public Works administrative building to "appointment only" status until further notice, due to an increased urge to protect the town's infrastructure against COVID-19
“Mr. LaMattina MOVED to close the Town Hall, Whitman Public Library, Council on Aging and Public Works administrative building to "appointment only" status until further notice, due to an increased urge to protect the town's infrastructure against COVID-19. Second Mr. Bezanson. Mr. Salvucci noted the Selectmen have always followed the recommendation of the Board of Health and fire chief on issues like this. Town Clerk and Board of Health member Dawn Varley stated that she does not agree with closing the buildings. She does not want to be performing weddings outside in the dark and does not want her staff meeting people at the door, and cited what recently happened to State Representative Alyson Sullivan as her reasoning. Mr. Heineman suggested adding an insert to the census mailing advising of the phone numbers to town departments and directing people to the town website for further information on the closings. Chairman Kowalski asked the Board to address Mr. LaMattina's motion. He agreed with Mr. Salvucci about following the recommendations of the Board of Health but noted that the Board of Health has not held a meeting on this issue. Mrs. Varley commented that the Board of Selectmen did not follow the last two recommendations of the Board of Health. Mr. LaMattina asked for everyone to get back on track with this meeting and let the Board of Health work with the Chief Clancy going forward. Mr. Heineman advised the Board that the health inspector polled his board members earlier today and two of the three members were in agreement with closing the buildings for at least 2 weeks. Chairman Kowalski called for a vote in connection with the motion on the floor. So voted 5-0.” (Motion: LaMattina, second: Bezanson)
