Approve the March 23, 2020 Declaration of Emergency for Westwood
M. Walsh moved for the Select Board to approve the March 23, 2020 Declaration of Emergency for Westwood.
“M. Walsh moved for the Select Board to approve the March 23, 2020 Declaration of Emergency for Westwood. N. Hyde Seconded. Unanimous vote 2-0. N. Hyde stressed that the general public should adhere to all advice regarding social distancing, limiting activities to respect the health of all residents. C. Coleman stated that the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), located at the Westwood Police Station, has been set up, but is not currently open. The town is being proactive with having the EOC ready to go if needed. Town Buildings are closed to the public until further notice. Limited staff is available to answer phone calls or emails. Many employees are working remotely, and will respond to resident emails in a timely manner. The Police and Fire Departments are available to provide services to the town. Town fields, including playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis courts and the tracks (High School and Deerfield) are closed to the public until further notice. This closure is to emphasize the Governor's guideline for social distancing and limiting gatherings to ten people or less. Westwood Police will be enforcing the field closings. N. Hyde stated the March 23rd Finance and Warrant Commission Public Hearing will continue with remote participation. As of today, the town election is scheduled for April 28, 2020 and the Annual Town Meeting is scheduled for May 4, 2020. At this time, no decision has been made to postpone and reschedule the Town Election or Annual Town Meeting. Further discussion is needed, and the Select Board is awaiting guidance from the Governor's Office. Per C. Coleman, Boards and Committees will continue to meet; some with remote participation by the members. Residents are encouraged to visit the town website at www.townhall.westwood.ma.us <http://www.townhall.westwood.ma.us> to view meeting agendas for more information. The Select Board is able to conduct Emergency Meetings outside of regularly scheduled meetings, so please check the website for the .” (Motion: Walsh, second: Hyde)
