Flag Policy Update

Accept the Use of Flag Poles on Town Property Policy as presented by Town Counsel Mullen

Minutes, page 2

ApprovePassed · 5–1

Jonathan P. Chines motioned to accept the Use of Flag Poles on Town Property Policy as presented by Town Counsel Mullen. Julie Smith-Galvin seconded. Edward F. Dombroski, Jr. commented that something does not feel quite right about stating town flag poles not being intended as a forum for free expression by the public. It isn't a form of free public expression but in essence for individuals who happen to be elected onto the Town Council at any given time are voting to express the official town sentiment. Motion passed 5-1-0 with Julie Smith-Galvin, Michael J. McLane, Robert E. Vincent II, Jonathan P. Chines and Mehreen N. Butt voting in favor of the motion. Edward F. Dombroski, Jr. voting against the motion stating we don't have a policy here amongst this body about how to select what flag we would or would not fly.
