Mr. Mokrisky made the motion that the memorial square for Mr. Joseph DeVito be located at the corner of Park Street and Washington Street on the side of the Historical Society and that the Open Session of the Select Board Tuesday, January 16, 2024 7:00PM memorial square for Mr. Charlie Large be in the cul-de-sac on Lowe Avenue, at the entrance to Dawe Elementary School. Chair Roberts asked Mr. Mokrisky to explain the location choices. Mr. Mokrisky responded that the square for Mr. DeVito was chosen because his family had owned a store on the site of the ~ current Honey Dew and Mr. DeVito had worked all his life to contribute to the Historical Society. Mr. Mokrisky believes it to be the first time a square was dedicated to a veteran during his lifetime. Mr. DeVito is now 97 years old. As for Mr. Large, he had requested it be placed in Lowe Avenue. Vice Chair Cavey seconded the motion and thanked Mr. Mokrisky for his diligence in the nomination and location of the memorial squares. Mr. Mokrisky spoke of his personal experience with the families of these men and with other families, many of whom had been his mentors upon his entry into Town government in 1992. Mr. Mokrisky stated that it was important to remember the contributions of these Stoughton families. On the motion, the Board voted 4 yes and 0 no to approve the locations of the memorial squares.
