Not recommend a small business exemption of any percentage

Minutes, page 2

ApprovePassed · Unanimous, 4 present

Bilbo moved to not recommend a small business exemption of any percentage. Foreman seconded the motion. Foreman asked if this would benefit the owner of the business or the property. Kozlowski stated that the exemption does not necessarily benefit the business owner. She stated that 69 owners would qualify, but that it would mean an increase for the rest of the tax class and require that we create another tax rate for personal property. Eric Jacobson, member of Board of Assessors, stated that the value of the building has to be less than one million dollars and that will not benefit business owners if properties worth more than one million dollars. Waitkevitch stated that he does not favor targeted exemptions and this does nothing for a small business in a large building. Foreman stated that we need to find a way to incentivize businesses, but that $50 or $70/year is not the way to do that. A roll call vote was taken. Voting in favor: Timothy Waitkevitch David Pignone Ryan Foreman Heidi Bilbo Motion passes (4-0)
