Amend the agenda to discuss the Board's statement on racial justice
Parker moved to amend the agenda to discuss the Board's statement on racial justice. Bilbo seconded the motion. Colarusso stated that this statement was not on the agenda and it is inappropriate to add it when residents would want the chance to make commentary or weigh in. Parker stated that she understands Colarusso's concern, but in light of what happened over the weekend to the George Floyd mural, she feels that it is imperative that the Board issue a statement as soon as possible. Parker stated that she spoke with Galvin and he agreed that the statement could be read at the meeting. Colarusso stated that she would like an opportunity to read the statement and have input. MacNeill stated that the vote is to amend the agenda to read the statement and that the item can be discussed again at a late meeting. Colarusso stated that as a duly elected Board she feels that it is inappropriate to even read the statement without notice. Bilbo stated that it has been the practice of the Board to allow Board members to take a first pass at drafting statements, allowing feedback, and then continuing the conversation to a vote. Colarusso stated that generally even a starting point would be placed on the agenda and that she would like to weigh in on the language. MacNeill stated that Parker contacted her this afternoon and requested that she be allowed to read a statement in light of the defacing of the Floyd mural. She continued that Galvin stated that the statement could be read and voted on at the next meeting. A roll call vote was taken.
