Take no action for Article 19

Minutes, page 7

ApprovePassed · Unanimous, 3 present

To take no action for Article 19

From the minutes

“Upon motion to take no action made by Select Board Member B. Pike and seconded by T. White. Discussion: Select Board Chair M. Germain stated he was opposed to the article and will be voting against it at Town Meeting. Should this article pass, things will change for the Town of Middleborough as we know it. Germain stated he will have more to discuss at Town Meeting as he did not want to speak on behalf of two absent Select Board members. Finance Committee Member G. Montapert inquired about the alternative to not voting in favor. Select Board Chair M. Germain stated the people will have to decide at Special Town Meeting. Yes or no vote. Germain stated over the past two years attempts were made to compromise, even going to the State House, with no resolution. He is preparing a slide for Town Meeting with the pros and cons. Finance Committee Member M. Phillips stated it felt as if it were a threat to withhold state funding. Does not seem right, ethical or legal. Would we enter into a class action with other affected towns. There are a lot of hypotheticals. Select Board Chair M. Germain stated that the town is doing its part. It's not about the money all the time. It's about the town and the people who live here. Resident Paula Fay stated that the non-profits applying for grants will be asking questions regarding compliance and seeking clarity on the thought process as well. The Board voted unanimously to take no action for Article 19..” (second: White)
