To approve and recommend Article 24

From the minutes

“Motion made by Selectman Weeden to approve and recommend Article 24. Motion seconded by Selectwoman Kelley-Wilson. Discussion focused on clarifying the project scope in the explanation, particularly emphasizing that, in addition to HVAC upgrades, the project would address fire suppression and bring older sections of the building up to modern safety codes. While it was noted that the article itself cannot be changed, Town Manager Rodney Collins confirmed that the explanation can be expanded to better reflect these safety improvements, in addition to providing a supplemental page with a more detailed breakdown of the article. Board members agreed that highlighting fire suppression and code compliance would strengthen public support. Chair Wyman-Colombo added that maintaining appropriate classroom temperatures (ideally 68-74°F) is critical for e?ective learning, particularly during standardized testing in May, as excessive heat can negatively a?ect student performance and health. She noted that the American Academy of Pediatrics states that extreme heat can lead to reduced motivation and cognitive decline, with the greatest impact on lower-income students who may lack access to air conditioning at home.
