Section 11 also provides that a city or town shall not terminate an essential service of a resident, including but not limited to, water, trash collection or electricity, for nonpayment of taxes or fees with due dates on or after March 10, 2020 if paid on or before June 30, 2020, if the inability to pay resulted from circumstances related to the outbreak of COVID19 or the governor's March 10, 2020 declaration of a state of emergency. There has been intense interest in this matter among Brookline residents. At your meeting last week, I presented staff's recommendation and received preliminary consensus on this action in order for the Town to begin advertising these accommodations.
